Jetpack World Headquarters
January 21st, 2009 - filed under Status UpdatesJetpackHQ finally has an official front page. It’s basically just a teaser for what the site will contain. Since it will change later, I’ll reproduce it here:
A new version of the classic game Jetpack is currently under development!
JetpackHQ.com is a concept for an interactive Jetpack fan community. Features will include:
- Play Jetpack from your web browser, and embed playable missions directly on your own web site
- Easily share homemade missions with your friends
- Post mission packs on your profile for other fans to play & rate
- Socialize with other Jetpack fans in our online community
- Get the latest updates & addons
- A downloadable, full featured version for the PC/Mac/Linux will also be available
In other news, we are currently looking into publishing a version of Jetpack on portables and console systems. I’ll post more information when an agreement is reached.

This is such exciting news! This is the most I anticipated from a video game in a very long time
January 21st, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Wow, embeddable levels in your webpage? Combined with MooTools, this will be pretty awesome.
January 21st, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Great news!
Really looking forward for this, oh the memories from the old jetpack
January 22nd, 2009 at 12:31 pm
This is the announcement you mentioned in your comment previous blog post, right?
“Playable missions from your own website” sounds cool indeed, especially if that means people can play my custom-built levels that way, like I think it does.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that will make me prefer the web-based version over the downloadable one.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Yes! Finally! We’re moving forward again!
January 25th, 2009 at 12:11 am
Sweet. The downloadable version will that be written in flash as well, or an actual executable? 2009’s looking to be a great year! This just adds even more awesome to it. I have other questions, but I’ll save them for another time.
Good work, if I can I’ll upload a video to my Youtube if an official one comes available!

I’d pay a hundred bucks to play Jetpack on XBL Arcade.
January 27th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
A hundred, really??
January 28th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Yes i would…. with level sharing included, of course…
January 29th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
Any screenshots by chance? Even if they are the basic of the basic it would be fun to see!
January 30th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
So will Jetpack 2 contain a set of stock levels?
January 31st, 2009 at 12:19 pm
Yes it will contain several mission packs, which are groups of levels.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:01 pm
I don’t know about 100, but I’d gladly pay 15 dollars for Jetpack on WiiWare.
February 1st, 2009 at 1:20 am
Awesome, this sounds like it will be worth the long wait between Jetpack 1 and 2, it’s awesome how your utilizing modern technology to benefit the game.
So how long is it now till Jetpack 1’s 16th birthday?
February 3rd, 2009 at 10:44 am
Wheee! I love this game and I am very excited to play it.
I am sure you won’t tell a release date yet. Is it 2009?
My suggestion is to use the same things like you did in Jetpack 1.
Same enemys, same sounds, same textures. For sure you can
modernize it but I think that if the “Jetpack-feeling” is lost,
Jetpack 2 will be disappointing.

The news of a future release of a new Jetpack version, by Adam Peterson, is one of the most desireable news I could receive (here in Brazil). I just love this original game and, in years past, a expended a hundred hours – at least – creating challenges with my – then – little son. A lot of boys falled in love for the orginal game, playing wit us. I called my son minutes ago to see this e-mail and he jumped of joy. [Im sorry if I did mistakes with my bad english...].
Best wishes, a sucessfully job (this time I will pay for that, for sure!)

Everything in the bullet list looks like it’s relevant only after the game is released.
Everything but “Socialize with other Jetpack fans in our online community”, so perhaps there will be a forum before the game is done.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
If there is an online forum, I highly suggest getting the admin panel locked via something like SSL, so many people try hacking for no reason. That and a custom title mod
The only thing I’d suggest is not PHPBB3, the permission settings on PHPBB3 has to be the most confusing thing ever made. I much rather they ripped off IPB 1 and 2 then use the one they have in there now (Which is quite horrid).
February 12th, 2009 at 12:50 am
Making any headway, adam? You have everyone so excited.
February 12th, 2009 at 10:12 am
We have gotten a lot of interest from publishers! I can’t go into specifics yet though.
February 13th, 2009 at 7:45 am
Well, that’s good news I’m sure, even without specifics that you can tell us!
February 13th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
I’m excited to hear this!
February 15th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
I just hope they let you have control of the music…
February 16th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
I made a little teaser in my spare time… hope you all like it!

I just hope this doesn’t turn out to be vaporware. I’m hearing lots of sizzle, but where’s the meat?
February 19th, 2009 at 11:39 am
I would love to play this on my iTouch
February 21st, 2009 at 12:21 am
Hey, Adam! I can’t believe (finally) we’re getting MORE Jetpack! I can’t wait! I bought Jetpack years ago at a video store (floppy). It’s been my ALL-TIME favorite game. PLEASE don’t change it too much, hate all that high-falutin’ 3-d crap! Keep it simple and fun, just like the old game. Remember, when it’s not broke, don’t fix it!
February 21st, 2009 at 7:23 am
Will it be a win32pe type application? I loved the original.
February 23rd, 2009 at 9:40 am
Tim: Heh that’s awesome! (sorry about the delay, your post got flagged as spam)
Diane: I agree, I have never seen a 3D sequel that was better than the original 2D (HOMM, Civilization, etc) It’s going to have a 3D look, but with strict controls on the camera movements so the 3D doesn’t interfere with the gameplay.
February 25th, 2009 at 11:31 am
You turned red… which is very helpful when looking for official information in the comments.
February 28th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
YAY, hopefully it gets released this year, but take your time if you need it. It’s good news to hear that some progress is being made. The online features will be a great addition! Good choice on keeping the 2D game play.
March 14th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Adam, is the plan to still use pre-rendered 3d graphics or realtime 3d rendering?
March 14th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
I think you should also think about releasing it on the playstation network store as a downloadable title for the PSP. Maybe a updated version of the game with the whole 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds thing (or vise versa). With level sharing and leaderboards over WLAN (wi-fi) and online. I own both DS and PSP, but i would like to see on the PSP. But that’s just me.

I just want to let everyone know I’m still here… this business of getting published seems to be a pretty slow process, and since everything is up in the air, I have nothing to post right now.
March 23rd, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Glad to know you’re still around.
March 30th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Good luck Adam, I loved the original JetPack

This is wonderful! I love JetPack since 1995~96… Now I have 18 years old and still like! =D
Good luck! I am your fan! ^^

The fact that a publishing deal is still being worked on doesn’t mean (I assume) that work on development was put on halt.
Besides, getting that deal done is progress too.
April 26th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
I would pay 10 bucks on the App Store to play jetpack 1 on the iPhone. Probably a better choice over the DS version but I commend them nonetheless…
May 3rd, 2009 at 6:12 pm
It’s been soooo long…
May 9th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
I’m looking forward to Jetpack 2, love the first one ever since the mid 1990s when I was just a kid. Let’s just hope some publisher is ready to pick up the project in these hard times we live in.
By the way, this isn’t really JP2 related but it has been a dream of mine for many years to get to play a more “modernized” version of Jetpack. Basically a rewritten version that is fully compatible with modern computers and has the file & code structure overhauled to allow for more customization (like adding custom tiles, replacing sounds, etc.) and just simplify the “architecture” of the game files as a whole. Another thing that I always dreamed about was to make levels bigger than one screen, the view could move with the jetpack guy similarly to the side-scrollers or the view could jump between screens when the jetpack guy touches one of the four edges. With that plus allowing more than 15 bad guys in one level, one could make some very big and challenging levels.
I know this is never going to happen but I just felt like sharing this with you.
May 30th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Yo! It’s the end of May! Any progress Adam? Any develepment with publishing?
June 1st, 2009 at 1:00 am
Bjossi its 20 enemies…but its true, i dont know how many times ive made a level and wanted more enemies when that red screen comes up lol…..of course its all up to adam and i cant wait to play it.
June 8th, 2009 at 3:06 am
Come on, you gotta know what a win32pe executable is, in reference to my earlier question.
June 8th, 2009 at 5:12 am
TLS: I don’t know, it will depend on what type of exe the projector I end up using outputs. But if you’re asking for Linux, I plan to build a Linux version. There’s no reason not to, since its Flash.
(fyi to answer to the publishing questions see the next post)

I'd pay a hundred bucks to play Jetpack on XBL Arcade.
