Temporary Blockage

I’m putting the project on hold for 4 months in order to work on the website of a certain unnamed presidential candidate.  The chance to contribute was too compelling to pass up!

On another note, IcySon55 is working on a Nintendo DS version of the original Jetpack.  If you have connections in the video gaming industry and know a publisher that might be interested in such a project, let me know.

Wow, that’s cool. Have fun! (And while your at it, get the White House to fund Jetpack 2.)

  2. raffiX Says:

Whoa, Jetpack for Nintendo DS? That would be sooo awesome! x3

  3. Ryan Says:

:( for jetpack 2 but good luck!

  4. IcySon55 Says:

Sorry for the screenshot being of version 0.02 (we’re up to 0.04 I believe). I’ll update it when I can.

@IcySon55 - That seems really cool. Too bad I don’t own a DS though.

@Adam Pedersen - Perhaps while this is happening you should collect donations from fans (Music, Art, etc) while things are on hold? I did give a shot at making some music for Jetpack, but I don’t know what format you need it in sadly. (I have it both in Impulse Tracker and MP3 Format as of right now). Is there a place I can send it to? I should I wait till your not as busy?

  6. RyogaH Says:

    Hi Adam Pedersen!
I have no idea to contact you personally, so I’m trying this devBlog now :)!

I have some question for you so … is there a way to contact you via e-mail or something ? (The Email on the Adept Software page won’t work)

    Thanks in advance!
    RyogaH

  7. Adam Says:

Oops, I fixed that page with the correct email address.

Ok let me tell you something, this is the most important piece of information you will ever here. Jetpack will be 10,000 times better if jetpacking and jumping were 2 seperate buttons. You have no idea how many times I’ve died because I couldn’t jump while having fuel, or just plain waisting fuel over a jump.

  9. Adam Says:

I’ve thought of doing that actually, I’ll test it both ways.

  10. markusson Says:

Perhaps it would be ideal to have two buttons for jump, the main one of which doubles for jetpacking. Then everybody can use the same button for both actions, and in edge cases you can use the secondary jump button, the best of both worlds.

  11. Adam Says:

Yes that’s a good idea, have the jetpack button fall back to jump as normal, but a separate jump button for more advanced players.

  12. ShaggE Says:

Wow. I had no idea that there was a Jetpack sequel in development. I plugged so many hours into Jetpack and it’s Xmas version… I think it was my first true game addiction. :D

Can’t wait to put even more time into the sequel!

  13. Dan Says:

hey now that the election is over, how soon will you be returning to …….. JETPACK 2 YAY!!!!!!!!!! ?

  14. Adam Says:

Victory Achieved. Should be back on Jetpack in a couple weeks :)

  15. Dan Says:

Wait, “victory achieved”? Does that mean you worked on the Barack Obama website?

  16. Ryan Says:

I was very happy with the election result :)

  17. Adam Says:

Alright I’ll confess, yes I’ve been working on barackobama.com up in Boston. The offer came up, and how could I turn that down?? :)

  18. Robert Says:

when are you going to resume production of jetpack 2?

  19. Tim K Says:

Yay! (for Obama’s victory and for the return of Jetpack!)

  20. Robert Says:

oh, whoops…a couple weeks, lol. I expect an update next week, then! :D

  21. Josh Says:

I’m still disappointed there will be no scrolling but I can’t force you to do it after all. The biggest limitation, I felt, is that you could only make one-screen levels. There are so many vastly better room designs that could be made with a larger scale. Linking levels is an improvement, but how about allowing multi-screen levels that just don’t scroll? Sort of like ZZT back in the day or better yet, Dangerous dave. You could transition from screen to screen and back, but it would simply display the new screen instead of scrolling? *sigh* I guess it’s a losing fight but I’d still like to see Jetpack on a grander scale. If I knew a blasted thing about programming I’d think about modifying the original Jetpack myself supposing the source was ever released. It’s not like I have anything better to do. I like the idea of separating jump and fly buttons but I think it should be an option(sounds like you were doing it like that anyway). Been a while since I’ve been at the site, hoping I see some good things in the future.

  22. Dan Says:

    AHEM! (no offense)

If my game programming teacher taught us Actionscript already, i’d be done with the game in half a year!

J2 is starting to sound like those sequels they wanted to make, even worked on but never finished.
If youre not gonna release an update, at least release a sentence or two about WHY there are no updates….
Again, no offense, but this community is feeding off your every word…

  23. Adam Says:

Sorry I’ve been working on back end stuff for the website. Also, I’m staying on with this job part time so I’ll only be able to work on Jetpack 2 days a week. But progress will be made!

  24. Dans an Idiot Says:

Dan, ur an idiot! If u want, learn how to make a game that millions of people love to play, or else stop criticizing the people who do know how to. I love Jetpack and I’ll wait as long as I have to for the second one to be released - as long as there is the level editor and module lol. I am also looking to upload some of my own levels onto the adept software website, so I guess I’ll e-mail you them in the near future. Thanks for a great game Adam, and good luck!

  25. Robert Says:

    …I’ll be waiting, then.

    No pressure, Adam, lol.

  26. Halley Says:

    Hi Adam!

I know you’re busy with things in real life and you’re only able to update Jetpack sparsely.

But I was wondering if you could still update us on any progress you’ve made, even if it isn’t much. It’s rather exciting to keep track of your process in making Jetpack 2.

I’m a big fan of this game and it’s given me hours of play when I was a little kid. This is one of the games I highly anticipate. Thanks for the memories and the future fun :)

    Happy Holidays!!!

  28. Zmepman Says:

Freeware or not, this is something that I would be willing to spend money on.

Now if only I had some e-bucks to spend…

  29. NetOperator Wibby Says:

Whoah, there’s a sequel to Jetpack? I remember playing this game for HOURS on end when I was in 6th grade. I’m 20 now but I’m sure am glad there’s still some life in this project.

Anyhoo, making Jetpack a DS game [even if it's just a port of the first game] would be phenomenal. That’s one game I would never trade in. Also, Nintendo WiFi Connection for sharing levels? Of course I’m getting ahead of myself but I like the thought.

I’ll checking back in for updates!
